The Canvas View: Build Like You're Telling a Story

The Canvas View is Xano's node-based, visual workspace. If you're newer to development or prefer to see the big picture at a glance, this is your go-to mode. Instead of reading through lines of logic, you can follow the flow of your application visually as nodes connect and interact across the canvas.

This makes it especially useful for explaining your app's logic to teammates, clients, or stakeholders who may not have a technical background. Think of it as a storytelling tool — one that also happens to power your entire backend.

The Function Stack: Linear and Familiar

If you have more of a traditional development background, the Function Stack will feel right at home. Logic is layered sequentially, step by step, in a vertical list. This mirrors how most developers think through code — one operation flowing into the next.

Importantly, the Function Stack is still fully visual. You're not writing raw code; you're clicking on visual elements and configuring them through a clean interface. It's the best of both worlds: the structure of traditional development with the accessibility of a no-code tool.

Switching Between Modes

One of the most convenient features is the switcher at the top of your workspace. At any point, you can toggle between Canvas View and the Function Stack without losing your work. Any adjustments you make in one view are reflected in the other, so you're always working on the same underlying logic regardless of which interface you prefer.

This means you can start a flow in the Canvas View to map out the big picture, then switch to the Function Stack to fine-tune individual steps — or vice versa.
