Simpli Soda is an innovative ecommerce brand disrupting the sparkling water market with a unique CO₂ cylinder exchange model. With complex inventory logistics, fast-growing transaction volume, and plans to scale aggressively, they needed more than an off-the-shelf solution.
Today, Simpli Soda processes a high volume of transactions per day through their mobile app—built with Bravo Studio on the frontend and Xano on the backend—with plans to scale aggressively as the company continues to grow.

Why Xano

Initially, Simpli Soda ran its ecommerce stack on WooCommerce with Stripe as the payment gateway. While sufficient at launch, WooCommerce could not handle the complexity of their business model.
Customers order full CO₂ cylinders and must return empties within a set time. Failure to return cylinders triggers charges, requiring highly specific backend logic that WooCommerce couldn't support.
Coordination with USPS, FedEx, Shippo, and Amazon Seller Central demanded deep API integration. Simpli Soda needed a backend flexible enough to support complex business rules, scalable enough to handle thousands of daily transactions, and modular enough to swap out services like payment gateways or auth providers without major rebuilds.

Michael Pelland
Co-Founder & COO, Simpli Soda
While collaborating with Bravo Studio to rebuild their frontend for faster iteration, Bravo introduced Simpli Soda to Xano. During this process, Simpli Soda realized that Xano could seamlessly power their entire backend.
The entire backend logic was migrated from WooCommerce into Xano, with 35+ API endpoints created to handle their complex business requirements. Amazon and D2C fulfillment were unified into one backend system.
Xano enabled Simpli Soda to encode unique rules for CO₂ cylinder exchanges, inventory management, and fulfillment. The platform's flexibility allowed them to implement custom fees and logic for cylinder returns, something impossible with their previous WooCommerce setup.
Simpli Soda built direct connections to USPS, FedEx, Amazon Seller Central, and ad attribution systems—all through Xano APIs. They even built server-side attribution in Xano for Facebook Ads and Google Ads, achieving lower customer acquisition costs (CAC) by improving ad platform targeting with 100% reliable data feedback.
Inventory and shipping data were centralized in Xano with secure tracking of cylinder returns. The modular architecture allows quick swapping of services like Stripe to alternative gateways, without rewriting the backend.
Simpli Soda needed a backend that could handle complex business logic while remaining accessible to non-developers. Founder Michael Pelland was able to quickly build and manage endpoints, reaching near-expert level in just three months.
Xano provides the ease of use needed for rapid development
"I don't know why you would code anything anymore. Xano is the glue that holds our entire business together," said Michael Pelland. Non-developers like Pelland were able to quickly build and manage endpoints without technical barriers.
Xano scales effortlessly from startup to high-volume operations
"We were concerned about what we'd look like at scale, given how quickly our company has grown. Xano put those fears to rest. It's shocking how easy it is to use," Pelland explained. With 35+ API endpoints and modular integration design, Xano ensures Simpli Soda can pivot quickly without technical debt.
Xano enables advanced use cases like server-side attribution
Beyond basic ecommerce functionality, Simpli Soda leveraged Xano to build sophisticated server-side attribution for their ad campaigns. This gave them 100% reliable data feedback to advertising platforms, significantly improving targeting and reducing customer acquisition costs.
The company went from a basic WooCommerce setup to processing a high volume of transactions per day through their Xano-powered mobile app. With their scalable architecture, they're confident they can handle rapid expansion without rebuilding their backend.
By building server-side attribution in Xano for Facebook Ads and Google Ads, Simpli Soda achieved lower customer acquisition costs through improved ad platform targeting with 100% reliable data feedback.
The company is planning push notifications and AI-driven forecasting with Xano's MCP features, a move from Bravo to React Native for speed, and a headless ecommerce site (Node.js + Vercel) fully integrated into Xano. They're also expanding to new distribution locations to further reduce costs and delivery times.
